MEET OUR OPTOMETRISTS

DR. RICHARD WILSON

Richard Wilson, O.D. received his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri – St. Louis (UMSL) College of Optometry in 1997. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Central Methodist College in 1986.

Dr. Wilson was one of the first optometrists to pass the American Board of Optometry’s Board Certification examination and has participated as principal investigator in dozens of clinical research projects regarding contact lenses, lens care solutions, and myopia reduction in children.

In addition to being a past president of the Missouri Optometric Association (MOA) Board of Directors, Dr. Wilson also is the proud recipient of the MOA’s 2001 Young Optometrist of the Year Award, and in 2003 the MOA named him their Optometrist of the Year. While serving as Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor at the UMSL College of Optometry, Dr. Wilson has helped educate and prepare the next generation of optometrists for their work in the profession.

Outside of optometry, Dr. Wilson enjoys playing trombone, piano and other areas of church music. He and his wife, Janie, opened a Christmas tree and energy farm called Wilson’s Whispering Pines. In addition to a bed and breakfast, the farm offers Christmas trees, pumpkins, active bee hives, and outdoor experiences, such as an obstacle course, hiking trails, and other activities.

DR. DANA KRAUSE

Dana Krause, O.D. received her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri – St. Louis College of Optometry and earned her Bachelor of Science at Missouri Western State College.

In practice since 2006, Dr. Krause specializes in pediatric eye exams and contact lenses. She became an optometrist because she enjoys being able to listen to her patients and work with them to achieve better vision to comfortably experience the events of their daily lives.
Dr. Krause keeps busy with her husband and their three sons who are all involved in sports and other activities. They are active in softball, basketball, football and lacrosse. In her free time, Dr. Krause enjoys traveling and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks.

DR. JEFFREY HARTER

Jeffrey Harter, O.D. received his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri – St. Louis College of Optometry where he was named to both the Beta Sigma and Gold Key Honor Societies. He also traveled to Paraguay during this time and helped provide free eye care to impoverished families. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Pittsburgh State University graduating in 2005.

Dr. Harter’s external rotations in his fourth year of college included the Optometric Clinic in Honolulu, Hawaii, as well as Choate Eye Associates in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Harter is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Missouri Optometric Association, as well as the Optometric Society of Greater Kansas City.
Dr. Harter specializes in primary care, specialty contact lenses and myopia control. He is active with the Kansas City Free Eye Clinic and has previously served on the board of directors.

Having an interest in optometry came at an early age for Dr. Harter due to having a surgery for strabismus when he was a child. He had always had a passion for science and an interest in the healthcare profession. Dr. Harter enjoys the relationships that he can build with his patients and the opportunity to be able to help them not only see well, but also improve their overall health and quality of life.

When he is not treating patients, Dr. Harter enjoys traveling, playing in a community band and volleyball.

DR. MELISSA ENEVOLDSEN

Melissa Enevoldsen, O.D. received her Doctor of Optometry from the University of Missouri – St. Louis College of Optometry in 2012. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology from the University of Kansas in 2007.

Specializing in pediatric vision care and myopia control, Dr. Enevoldsen says she wanted a career in healthcare where she could make a lasting impact helping her patients see their best and maintain their eye health throughout their life. Dr. Enevoldsen loves the lasting relationships that she develops with her patients.

When Dr. Enevoldsen is not treating patients, she enjoys spending time with her kids, traveling, baking and keeping active by working out.

DR. JULIE LAFRENIERE

Julie Lafreniere, O.D. received her Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2017. She earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Manitoba.

After completing a primary care residency at Southern College of Optometry in
Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. Lafreniere joined the Advanced EyeCare team. In 2018, she earned fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry. She has also participated in mission trips to Ecuador and Colombia to provide vision care to those in need. She’s an active member of the American Optometric Association, the Missouri Optometric Association and the Optometric Society of Greater Kansas City.

Dr. Lafreniere was inspired by her childhood optometrist to have a career in optometry. She enjoys getting to know her patients and educating them on the health and wellness of their eyes.

Dr. Lafreniere resides in Kansas City, Missouri with her husband, John Burton, who is also a Doctor of Optometry. Together, they both enjoy traveling, being outdoors and trying new restaurants.

DR. Melanie Linderer

Melanie Linderer, O.D. received her Doctor of Optometry from University of Missouri – St. Louis School of Optometry in 2003 and earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from University of Missouri – Columbia.

Dr. Linderer specializes in family eye care and contact lenses. She loves helping people obtain their best vision to allow them to read text messages and emails or be able to drive again. In high school, she became very interested in the medical field and had the opportunity to observe a variety of medical specialties – optometry sparked a fire her soul. It was an awe-inspiring experience for Dr. Linderer the first time she saw a child’s face light up when they put on eyeglasses to see the world around them. She remembers it as the moment she knew that she wanted to be an optometrist.

In her free time, Dr. Linderer enjoys traveling and attending musical events with her two daughters. She is also a self-proclaimed “ultrarunner” as she enjoys running on both trails and roads. Currently Dr. Linderer has completed 56 marathons and 18 ultramarathons – including a 100-mile race! She also enjoys volunteering at animal shelters helping them find their “fur”ever homes!
