Some conditions like macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma lead to permanent vision changes. These changes such as blurriness, distortion, and central or side vision loss can interfere with activities of daily living such as reading medication bottles, preparing food, handling finances, etc.
Patients who suffer from reduced vision should see if he/she qualifies for a low vision evaluation. Low Vision Rehabilitation is designed not to restore or change vision, but to maximize the patient’s remaining vision.
Dr. Erker and Dr. Harter will work with various magnifying devices and other non-optical tools such as checkbook writing guides, talking watches, large print playing cards to make certain tasks easier for low vision patients.
