Sun Protection

UV rays are notorious for causing irreversible damage to both your skin and your eyes. The eyelid region is one of the most common sites for skin cancer to occur. Advanced Eyecare/Blue Springs Optical have several options available for sun protection which is recommended to all patients regardless of prescription.

Photochromic lenses change color when exposed to UV light. Transitions (logo not text) is a specific type of photochromic lenses which turn into sunglasses outdoors. There are three different transitions lens options.

1. Transitions® – Transitions ® everyday lenses can help you through your busy day. This dynamic eyewear is designed to be worn indoors and to automatically adapt when outdoors to give you a more comfortable viewing experience while protecting your eyes from damaging UV light.
2. Transitions® XTRActive™ – These lenses have a slight tint while indoors and become even darker while outside. Like Transitions ® they will block 100% of  UVA and UVB rays. XTRActive lenses have a moderate time behind windshields.
3. Transitions® SOLFX™ performance sun lenses are specifically designed for outdoor activities to help enhance visual performance. Crafted with functionality in mind, Transitions SOLFX lenses automatically adjust to optimize lens color and darkness in changing outdoor lighting conditions.

Sun clips are also a great option for sun protection. Chemestrie Clips are a custom magnetic clip made specifically to fit any frame. These clips come in a variety of colors, reading powers, and even come with 3D technology.

The other option would be a second pair of eyewear specifically for sunglasses. Make use of an old frame and turn them into sunglasses!
