There are different types of material and lens styles in which your prescription eyeglasses can be made. Your eye doctor will make a recommendation based on your prescription, but also will keep your occupation and hobbies in mind.

If people are having trouble seeing at distance or near, a pair of single vision lenses can help them focus more easily. Sometimes it takes more than just single vision lenses to make things clear and easy to see. Bifocals help the eyes to focus at two set distances, typically distance and near. Trifocals have three different distances: distance for driving, intermediate for computer viewing and near for reading. Progressive type lenses have a gradual change in powers, resulting in a wider range of vision as compared to bifocals and trifocals.

Though traditionally the lenses are set to focus at certain distances, sometimes people have occupations or hobbies that need special accommodations. If you have a particular task in which you are having trouble seeing, measure from your nose to your working distance. These measurement may aid in the doctor’s decision for your prescription.
