Healthy vision means scheduling an eye exam appointment every year with an eye doctor. Not only does an eye exam provide essential information about your eye health, it also ensures that you have the correct prescription for your eyewear. If you are considering getting contacts, have your contact lens exam done by our eye doctors at Advanced Eyecare in Blue Springs, Raymore, and Raytown.
What Is the Difference Between Eye Exams and Contact Lens Exams?
Both exams are actually similar in checking the health of your eyes and visual acuity. The difference between the two is that your eye doctor will need to determine your contact lens prescription, which is different than your eyeglass prescription. Measurements of your eyes are also taken to see which type of contacts will best fit your eyes.
What To Expect During a Contact Lens Exam
- Prescription, Measurements, and Discussion of Lens Options: Since there are plenty of lens options available, such as daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and continuous wear lenses, your eye doctor will ask you a few questions about your lifestyle. Your optometrist will determine your prescription, take measurements of your eye, and decide which contact lenses are well-suited for your condition.
- Contact Lens Teaching: Before you can wear your trial lenses home, you are going to need to know how to put them in, remove them, and adequately care for them. During your contact lens exam, one of our optometry team members will help and teach you how to do these things.
- Schedule Your Follow-up Appointment: Before you leave our office, you are going to need to schedule a follow-up appointment. During this visit, your eye doctor will check the fit and feel of your contacts. Your optometrist will also make sure that the prescription is correct. If everything is fine, you can order your supply of lenses during this visit. If your lenses are not comfortable, or if you cannot see as well as you should be seeing, the necessary adjustments can be made at this appointment.
