Who Is a Candidate for Eye Care?

The short answer is everyone. Our eyes are our most-used of the five senses, making it vitally important to treat them well from birth, to infancy, to adulthood, to old age. Over our lifetimes, the eyes go through a myriad of natural age-related changes, and at some point we all will need more than one of the services below.

Newborn/Infant Eye Care

The first examination of a child happens at birth in the hospital. Infants are checked for structural abnormalities like cataracts and ocular movement. If there are any problems, the newborn is referred to a pediatric ophthalmologist. If there are no vision issues, then a six-month examination is recommended. The eye doctors at Advanced Eyecare South can conduct infant eye exams to monitor proper visual development.

Toddler/Young Child Eye Care

If your child has no signs of visual disturbances, then routine examinations should be performed at age 3, and again when the child is starting school, about age 5 or 6, and then every 2 years until the teen years. At that point, it is recommended to have eye exams every year.

Eye Care for Young Adults and Seniors

As stated above, after the teen years, annual examinations are recommended for all adults, and more frequently to treat any vision problems. See the list of services we provide here at Advanced Eyecare South in Raymore, Missouri.

Services Provided

Comprehensive examinations check for visual acuity, the need for glasses or contacts, structural issues, cataracts, or tumors. For dry eye, we offer dry eye treatment. If it is determined that your vision requires them, we stock an array of eyeglasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses.

You may be a good candidate for LASIK surgery. While we do not perform surgery ourselves, our LASIK surgery co-management includes the preoperative assessment, referral to an ophthalmologic surgeon, and postoperative follow-up.

As we age, it is almost a given that we will develop cataracts. If we find cataracts on a routine exam, we can offer cataract surgery co-management by sending our preoperative findings to an ophthalmologic surgeon, and conducting a postoperative follow-up exam.
