Post-Cataract Surgery Recovery and Aftercare

Cataracts are a common eye condition in which your lens turns cloudy. When your vision begins to look a bit foggy or blurred, it can be hard to see to read, drive, or perform daily activities. It's important to have an annual eye exam to be aware of developing eye conditions, including cataracts. If you have received cataract surgery in Raytown, Raymore, and Blue Springs, our team at Advanced Eyecare offers post-cataract surgery care.

Understanding Post-Cataract Surgery Care

Cataract surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, so you won't need to stay in the hospital overnight. Because you will receive anesthesia, you may feel a little woozy after surgery. That shouldn't last too long, but you cannot drive yourself home. Our eye doctors will also give you a list of things you cannot do, such as lifting heavy objects, performing strenuous exercises, or rubbing your eyes. You should also avoid perfume, hair products, face washes, and lotions to prevent anything from getting in your eye. We recommend wearing a protective cover over your eye while sleeping to avoid injury to your eye.

Your vision may be blurry for a day or two after the surgery but should clear up quickly. It is extremely important that you take your prescribed eye drops to maintain proper eye care. After a week, you will need to visit our eye doctors to ensure your eyes are functioning properly. A month after your surgery, your eyes should be fully healed. If there are any issues, we can address them at that point.

Post-cataract surgery, you may notice that previously dull colors are now brighter, and your prescription may have changed. If your prescription changes post-surgery, our eye doctors will provide a proper assessment for a new prescription.
